Manchester United legend Roy Keane has heaped praise on Enzo Fernández and Moises Caicedo for their stellar performances in Chelsea’s recent 3-1 FA Cup triumph over Aston Villa.
In a replay of their previous cup encounter, Chelsea secured victory with goals from Conor Gallagher and Nicolas Jackson, followed by a sensational free-kick from Fernandez in the second half.
Despite a consolation goal from Moussa Diaby for Aston Villa, Keane commended Fernandez and Caicedo for their dominant display in midfield, helping Chelsea advance to the FA Cup last-16 stage.
Speaking to ITV Sport, Keane hailed the duo’s performance, emphasizing their strength, aggression, and excellent decision-making on the pitch. He said:
“Outstanding. The two of them dominated that midfield. Aston Villa were very poor, but they looked strong, they looked aggressive, their passing was short, and their decision-making was excellent. They were strong and physical as well. Outstanding.”
Fernandez, who has now scored six goals this season, showcased his passing accuracy and defensive prowess, while Caicedo displayed exceptional dueling skills and passing accuracy.
Keane also applauded Fernandez’s exquisite free-kick, describing it as quality and praising its pace and accuracy. He remarked:
“I can see why the referee gave that free-kick, and the strike is just quality. You have to put it in the top corner, he’s facing his team-mate who is a brilliant goalkeeper, what a free-kick. Pace, whip. As soon as it left his foot, you thought it had a great chance. Beautiful.”
Chelsea’s next challenge will be against Leeds United in the FA Cup fifth round before facing Crystal Palace in a league encounter at Selhurst Park.
