Cam Newton, former Carolina Panthers quarterback, hasn’t seen action in the NFL since January 2022, marking over two years since his last game. Despite expressing interest in a potential comeback, Newton’s efforts thus far have been fruitless, with little interest shown in the 2015 league MVP.
Presently, Newton finds himself in Las Vegas, where he hosts his podcast, 4th and 1, and invites special guests during Super Bowl weekend. Among them was Shannon Sharpe, the inaugural guest, who fielded a fan’s inquiry about Newton’s prospects for an NFL return.
Sharpe emphasized that the decision rests solely with Newton himself. Delving into the complexities, he underscored the sacrifices and time required for Newton to regain his former prowess, especially given his familial commitments.
“There’s a price to be paid for greatness,” Sharpe affirmed. “There’s a price to be paid for success. And if you’re not willing to pay that price, you don’t deserve to be successful. You don’t deserve to be great.”
Sharpe delved further into the introspective questions Newton must confront before contemplating a return to the NFL.
“Are you willing to pay that price? Do you want to put your body through that again? Do you want to train the way you train? You got to go back to Auburn Cam, when he said, I’m coming out.
And you got to go back to that level of training when you didn’t have a dime. Because even though you have what you have, you got to train like you were broke.”
