Real Madrid target Alphonso Davies has reportedly opted against extending his contract with Bayern Munich, paving the way for a move to the Santiago Bernabéu.
According to journalist Carlos Carpio of MARCA, the highly-rated defender valued at €70 million has set his sights on joining Los Blancos next season. Davies, the Canadian international, is currently under contract with Bayern until the summer of 2025.
Although sidelined with an internal ligament strain, Davies is expected to return to action this weekend. In the current campaign, he has appeared in 27 matches across various competitions, tallying one goal and three assists.
Real Madrid, seeking upgrades at left-back over Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia, view Davies as a promising option. Mendy, the incumbent in the position, has faced several fitness setbacks, missing a total of six matches this season and 23 in the previous campaign.
Given his youth and attacking prowess, Davies could offer a viable solution to Real Madrid’s left-back concerns. The allure of joining the La Liga leaders and their promising Champions League campaign (1-0 lead over RB Leipzig) makes a move to Real Madrid enticing.
In contrast, Bayern Munich finds themselves trailing Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen by five points and are a goal down against Lazio in their Round-of-16 Champions League tie.
