Kylian Mbappe has reached a definitive decision regarding his future with Paris Saint-Germain and has conveyed it to the club.
As a free agent in the upcoming summer, Mbappe has been the subject of intense speculation, with Real Madrid and Liverpool prominently linked to his name.
Amid swirling rumors, David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that the French star has informed PSG of his intention to seek new opportunities elsewhere.
While the specifics of his departure remain to be finalized, an official announcement is anticipated in the forthcoming months. Mbappe’s departure is poised to yield significant financial relief for PSG, saving the club approximately €200 million annually. Following the exits of Lionel Messi and Neymar, Mbappe stands as PSG’s highest earner by a considerable margin.
With his contract nearing its conclusion, Mbappe has been at liberty to engage with foreign clubs since January 1st. Among the potential suitors, Real Madrid emerges as the most probable destination.
Notably, Mbappe came close to joining the 14-time European champions previously. However, he opted to extend his contract with PSG in May 2022, initially indicating a three-year commitment that would have extended his stay until 2025.
Subsequently, it was revealed that the extension was for two years, with the option for a third contingent upon Mbappe’s discretion. Regrettably for PSG, Mbappe did not exercise this option before the July 31 deadline.
Reports circulated that PSG endeavored to retain Mbappe’s services by proposing an exorbitant annual salary of £86 million. Nonetheless, PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi disclosed a “gentleman’s agreement” with Mbappe while refraining from divulging further specifics.
