Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has shared his insights on why he believes some strikers might be hesitant to join the Blues.
The Senegalese forward, who transferred to Chelsea from Villarreal, spoke candidly about the challenges of playing for such a prestigious club during an interview with Talk Sports. He emphasized the difficulty of performing at the highest level for a club of Chelsea’s stature.
Jackson arrived at the west London club last summer for a reported fee of around £31.8 million. Since then, he has contributed nine goals and three assists to the team. However, like his predecessors, he has faced criticism from supporters.
In his interview, Jackson pointed out that the weight of expectations and the intense pressure at Chelsea could deter some strikers from joining the club.
He expressed his understanding of why some players might be hesitant to make the move.
“It’s not easy. If you think of all the strikers that came here, you would not want to come here. If you think about the strikers that come here, and people say they’re not good enough, you would think, ‘There is no need for me to come here,'” Jackson remarked.
He went on to highlight the importance of resilience and focusing on the team’s success despite external scrutiny. Jackson emphasized the need to block out negative voices and maintain a positive relationship with teammates and the coaching staff.
“When I came, I understood why they were saying they’re not good enough, because it’s a big team and everything, but life is like this. We just have to continue working and believe in ourselves and try to improve every day,” Jackson concluded.
