Sevilla defender Sergio Ramos has expressed his intention not to celebrate if he scores against his former club, Real Madrid when they clash on Sunday, February 25. It will be Ramos’ first time returning to the Santiago Bernabeu as an opponent since departing Los Blancos after an illustrious 16-year tenure.
Despite Sevilla’s struggles near the relegation zone, Ramos emphasized his respect for Real Madrid and their fans. He stated that while he would be pleased if his goal secured victory for Sevilla, he would refrain from celebrating out of respect for his former club. Ramos stated, as reported by Goal:
“I have a lot of respect for the fans and for Real Madrid. If I score, I won’t celebrate, but if I’m lucky enough to score and that goal is enough to win, I’ll be delighted because those three points will come in very handy.
I’m going to feel at home because I’ve spent many years there, the most important moments of my career, I have wonderful memories of the fans and my teammates. It will be a unique and emotional moment.”
The decorated Spanish defender, who has triumphed in World Cup and European Championship campaigns, acknowledged Real Madrid’s perennial status as favorites for trophies. He recognized their current form, leadership in the league, and the quality of their players. Ramos affirmed:
“Real Madrid is the favorite every year to win everything. They are going through a good moment, they are leaders and have players of extraordinary quality. We know the stadium very well and we’re going to try to play a good game there.”
Having risen through Sevilla’s youth ranks before becoming a legend at Real Madrid, Ramos boasts an impressive trophy haul of 22 titles, including four Champions League triumphs. He served as captain for an extensive period, leaving an indelible mark on the club.
