In an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews, Phoenix Suns’ superstar forward and NBA legend Kevin Durant reflected on the unpredictable nature of professional basketball. Playing for his fourth different franchise, Durant acknowledged the fluidity of his career trajectory and the uncertainty that lies ahead in the league.
When asked about the possibility of finishing his career in Phoenix, Durant remained open to the idea while emphasizing the impossibility of foreseeing the future with certainty.
He expressed his current satisfaction with playing in Phoenix, appreciating the passionate fan base, the vibrant city, and the sense of purpose he feels being part of the Suns’ mission. Durant also expressed a desire to one day be honored with the franchise’s Ring of Honor, recognizing the significance of his contributions to the team.
At 35 years old, Durant is currently in his 16th NBA season and his first full season with the Suns, having been acquired from the Brooklyn Nets during the 2022-23 campaign.
Throughout his illustrious career, Durant has amassed numerous accolades, including 14 All-Star selections, four scoring titles, two NBA championships, two NBA Finals MVP awards, and one NBA MVP award.
Renowned for his offensive prowess, Durant ranks among the most prolific scorers in NBA history, with 28,296 career points, currently placing him 11th on the all-time scoring list.
While Durant experienced significant individual success during his tenure with the Oklahoma City Thunder, his time with the Golden State Warriors saw him achieve team success, reaching the NBA Finals three times and capturing two championships and two NBA Finals MVP awards.
However, his stint with the Brooklyn Nets, alongside stars Kyrie Irving and James Harden, was marred by injuries, leading to his trade to Phoenix.
Now forming a formidable “Big 3” with Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, Durant has become a cornerstone of the Suns’ championship aspirations.
Despite their current standing at eighth place in the Western Conference with a 33-24 record, the Suns remain formidable contenders as long as they can maintain their health and performance.
Durant’s durability and consistent high-level play, averaging 28.1 points per game while missing only seven games this season, indicate that he still has much to contribute to the game.
With his contract extending through at least the 2025-26 season, Durant’s future beyond that remains uncertain, leaving fans and analysts alike curious about the next chapter of his illustrious career.
