Former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira has expressed his appreciation for the warm reception he received from the fans of his former club following Fulham’s victory over Erik ten Hag’s side over the weekend.
The Red Devils suffered a 2-1 defeat against Marco Silva’s Fulham in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Saturday (February 24). Calvin Bassey’s goal in the 60th minute put Fulham in the lead.
Despite Harry Maguire’s late equalizer in the 89th minute, Manchester United seemed destined to share the points with Fulham. However, Alex Iwobi’s dramatic stoppage-time winner (90+7′) secured an exhilarating victory for the Cottagers.
The match marked the return of former Manchester United midfielder Pereira to Old Trafford. Starting the game for Fulham, Pereira was substituted in the 68th minute for Tom Cairney.
Taking to social media, Pereira expressed his gratitude to the fans for their positive response to his return. Posting on Instagram, the Belgium-born midfielder wrote:
“Vamos @fulham! Grande vitória em #OldTrafford contra @manchesterunited #MUFC…””Thanks to all the fans for the always positive reception, it’s always great to play here again.”
Pereira joined Manchester United’s youth set-up in 2012 from Dutch outfit PSV. After loan spells at Granada CF and Valencia, he made his breakthrough into the first team in 2018.
During the 2018-19 campaign, Pereira made 22 appearances across competitions and became a regular starter the following season. However, the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in 2020 saw him fall down the pecking order.
Following loan spells at Lazio and Flamengo, the attacking midfielder joined Fulham in 2022.
