Arsenal is reportedly interested in securing the services of Brighton star Evan Ferguson during the upcoming summer transfer window, as indicated by reports from Spanish media outlet Todofichajes.
Ferguson, who hails from Ireland, made the move to Brighton in January 2021 from Bohemian FC. Initially part of the Under-23 squad, he quickly ascended to the senior team during the 2021-22 season, marking his debut in the EFL Cup against Cardiff in August 2021.
Since then, he has accumulated 60 appearances for Brighton, tallying 16 goals and six assists. In the current season, he has notably contributed six goals and two assists in 31 matches, with a standout performance being his remarkable hat-trick against Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, is eager to reinforce the team’s attacking prowess by acquiring an established striker.
Despite their recent goal-scoring surge, with 25 goals in their last six Premier League matches, the Gunners have relied heavily on contributions from players other than their strikers, particularly Gabriel Jesus, who scored only one of those goals.
With standout talents like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, and Martin Odegaard, Arsenal’s attack could benefit greatly from a striker adept at link-up play and aerial prowess.
At just 19 years old and standing at 1.83 meters tall, Ferguson has demonstrated his Premier League quality with Brighton and Hove Albion. However, with his contract extending until 2029, securing his services may prove to be a challenging task for Arsenal.
