Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has acknowledged that Thiago Alcântara may remain sidelined for the rest of the season due to a long-term injury. Klopp confirmed that the Spanish midfielder’s return timeline is uncertain.
Thiago has been absent since April 2023 due to a hip injury, missing a total of 41 games for Liverpool. He made a comeback in Liverpool’s Premier League match against Arsenal earlier this month, marking his first appearance in ten months.
However, his hip issue resurfaced after a brief stint on the field, and he has been out since then. Klopp has provided an update on Thiago’s injury, expressing concern.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup clash against Southampton, Klopp stated, “There is no timescale. I don’t know [if he will play again this season], to be honest. What he has to do now from a medical point of view, I don’t know if that will then mean that he can play again.”
Klopp further added, “It’s not a short-term thing, that’s why I’m not really in the subject. It’s not that he might be in training in two weeks or something like that. Cannot say more about it, to be honest… The region is the same (hip).”
Liverpool secured their first trophy of the season by winning the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, with Virgil van Dijk scoring the decisive goal in extra time.
