Bucks’ Damian Lillard: ‘I Don’t Have Much of a Life’ in Milwaukee Since Trade

Damian Lillard’s transition from Portland to Milwaukee has brought significant changes to his daily life and routine.

The Milwaukee Bucks’ point guard recently shared insights into his experiences in the Cream City since his trade from the Portland Trail Blazers prior to the 2023-24 season. Lillard revealed a rather regimented existence revolving around basketball, with little room for activities beyond the court.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, Lillard disclosed his daily pattern, which predominantly involves basketball-related activities. “Bro, go to practice, go home, watch boxing, play video games,” he said.

Lillard expressed his longing for fresh content on boxing websites, highlighting the scarcity of leisure time in his schedule. “Man, I type in [boxing website] FightHype on YouTube 100 times and be praying for something new to be on there,” he added. Lillard acknowledged the sacrifices inherent in making significant career decisions, emphasizing the need to adapt to the resulting changes.

Having spent 11 seasons with the Trail Blazers before seeking a trade to pursue an NBA championship, Lillard acknowledged the toll it has taken on his personal life.

The absence of his family and friends, who remain in Portland, has contributed to feelings of loneliness in Milwaukee. “It’s definitely lonely because I’m such a family guy,” Lillard confessed, reflecting on the familial support he cherished in Portland.

The adjustment to life in Milwaukee extends beyond personal relationships. Lillard admitted to facing challenges in adapting his playing style to complement Bucks’ star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

“Obviously, trying to figure out me pairing with Giannis and being a part of this team. It’s a process and I think that’s been an adjustment for both of us,” he explained. The transition has been marked by moments of trial and error as both players strive to synchronize their gameplay.

Despite initial struggles, Lillard and Antetokounmpo have shown signs of progress as the season unfolds. Lillard’s statistical output has dipped, reflective of his altered role within the team dynamic.

With the Bucks currently occupying the third spot in the Eastern Conference standings, Lillard remains committed to fostering chemistry with his new teammates, including Antetokounmpo, as they gear up for a postseason push.
