Arthur Fils has offered an apology following his outburst directed at a supervisor during the Chile Open at Club Deportivo Universidad Catolica in Santiago.
During his quarterfinal match against Pedro Martinez on Friday, March 1, Fils expressed frustration with the condition of the clay court, engaging in a heated exchange with the supervisor.
He questioned the supervisor’s authority to judge the court’s quality as a non-athlete, stating, “How do you know? Tell me, how we do? That’s the worst… Are you a f**king athlete?”
Reflecting on his behavior, Fils acknowledged his mistake, expressing regret on Instagram, saying, “I wanted to apologize for my irritation yesterday, it’s not a good behavior.” He clarified that his frustration stemmed more from an injury concern rather than the playing conditions.
Despite the apology, Fils emphasized the significance of player safety, noting, “Risking your season because of a dangerous court is not something pleasant for all high-level athletes.” He mentioned undergoing examinations before heading to Indian Wells for his next tournament.
