Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry experienced the stark contrast of emotions in a Sunday night showdown against the Boston Celtics. Two years after leading his team to NBA glory against the same opponent, Curry found himself on the receiving end of a humbling defeat.
The Celtics handed the Warriors a resounding 140–88 loss at TD Garden, marking one of the most lopsided defeats in Golden State’s history. Curry, known for his prowess beyond the arc, struggled from deep, missing all nine of his attempted three-pointers. The loss abruptly halted the Warriors’ momentum during the season.
In the aftermath of the staggering defeat, Curry didn’t mince words about the outcome.
“That’s what we used to do to teams,” Curry candidly remarked to Celtics reporter Bob Manning, underscoring the past dominance of the Warriors.
During their golden era, the Warriors were renowned for their offensive firepower, clinching a historic 73-win season and appearing in five consecutive NBA Finals from 2015 to 2019. However, against this season’s top-seeded Celtics, Golden State faltered.
Curry’s performance mirrored the team’s struggles, as he shot just 2-for-13 from the field, tallying a mere four points, three assists, and one rebound in 17 minutes of play before being benched along with the other starters in the third quarter.
The Celtics capitalized on the offensive brilliance of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, who combined for 56 points.
With their eyes set on redemption, the Warriors (32–28) aim to rebound when they face off against the Milwaukee Bucks next Wednesday.
