Quarterback Caleb Williams is anticipating being chosen as the first overall pick in the draft, and he has reportedly arranged a visit with the team holding that selection.
According to Albert Breer of SI.com, the Bears intend to host Williams in Chicago for a visit following USC’s Pro Day on March 20. Initially, the plan was for Williams to visit Chicago on Tuesday, but he opted for a later visit.
During the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Williams did not undergo any medical evaluations and indicated that he would do them during visits with teams.
If the Bears had scheduled Williams’ visit for this week, they would have received medical updates before the start of the new league year on March 13.
This timing is significant as it aligns with the possibility of trading Justin Fields. General Manager Ryan Poles stated at the Combine that the team prefers to execute such a trade sooner rather than later if they intend to select a quarterback with the first pick.
The impact of waiting for a visit to the Bears’ facility on their timeline for dealing Fields to another team remains uncertain. However, clarity regarding the Bears’ course of action should emerge in the coming days.
