Francis Ngannou’s incredible journey from Cameroon to MMA stardom is awe-inspiring. Leaving home at 26 in pursuit of a better life in Europe, he couldn’t have foreseen the heights he would reach. However, had fate led him to America instead of France, he might have found himself excelling in a completely different sport.
Trippie Hale, Ngannou’s strength and conditioning coach, has vast experience working with athletes across multiple disciplines. With over 17 years in the coaching industry, he recognizes something exceptional in Ngannou.
According to Hale, the 6’4″ MMA sensation possesses all the attributes of an NFL player, and he doesn’t hesitate to express his conviction. Speaking to The Sun, Hale stated:
“If he was born in America, he would be playing in the NFL, no doubt about it. He wouldn’t have a choice! Especially if I got a hold of him, he wouldn’t have a choice.”
Emphasizing Ngannou’s imposing physicality, Hale believes he would excel as a defensive end in the NFL. Drawing parallels, Hale likened Ngannou to Myles Garrett, the Cleveland Browns defensive end who earned the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year Award:
“He can run so I could definitely see him being like a Myles Garrett, who was defensive player of the year this year. He definitely has that body type, that size, that kind of speed.”
At 37 years old, Ngannou continues to dominate, solidifying his status as a UFC legend and a skilled boxer. Beginning his combat sports journey in 2013 with MMA before transitioning to UFC in 2015, he claimed the UFC heavyweight title in 2021 with a 12-2 record.
Last year, he ventured into professional boxing, facing Tyson Fury in a contentious split decision loss. Despite the setback, Ngannou maintains his resilience, with a professional boxing record of 0-2.
