Rap superstar Drake places massive wager on Ngannou-Joshua bout

Drake’s presence at Las Vegas sportsbooks always sparks interest and speculation. Known for his passion for combat sports, the Canadian rapper consistently grabs attention with his sizable bets on high-profile fights.

However, his track record suggests that his wagers often end in losses, leading to the infamous notion of the ‘Drake curse.’ This superstition suggests that athletes associated with Drake’s financial support tend to suffer defeats in subsequent contests.

The latest instance of the Drake curse manifested when he backed Sean Strickland to defeat Dricus du Plessis in their middleweight title fight earlier this year. Despite Drake’s support, Du Plessis emerged victorious, claiming the title via split decision.

This defeat followed Drake’s $500,000 bet on Israel Adesanya to triumph over Strickland in their previous bout, which ended in Strickland’s unanimous decision victory.

Adding to his string of losses, Drake wagered a significant $1.2 million on Jake Paul to defeat Tommy Fury, only for Fury to secure the win. This pattern of unsuccessful predictions underscores the narrative surrounding Drake’s betting ventures.

In the lead-up to Friday night’s bout between Francis Ngannou and Anthony Joshua, Drake’s prediction is once again drawing attention.

According to a betslip shared on social media, Drake has placed a hefty bet of $615,000 on Francis Ngannou to emerge victorious against Anthony Joshua. If his prediction proves accurate, Drake stands to gain a substantial payout exceeding $1.9 million.

Sharing his bet on Instagram, Drake captioned, “Betting on a scary man.” However, given his track record of inaccurate pre-fight predictions, some supporters of Ngannou might be apprehensive about Drake’s choice to back him financially.
