Chael Sonnen has voiced his concerns about the footage from Mike Tyson’s ‘day 1’ training session, as anticipation builds for Tyson’s upcoming bout with Jake Paul.
Last week, it was officially announced that Jake Paul would be squaring off against former world champion Mike Tyson in a boxing match set for Saturday, July 20th at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The event will be streamed live on Netflix.
Paul didn’t hold back in expressing his excitement, stating on ‘X’:
“My sights are set on becoming a world champion, and now I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion of the world, the baddest man on the planet, and the most dangerous boxer of all time. Time to put Iron Mike to sleep.”
Tyson also weighed in, sharing his thoughts:
“I’m very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. He’s grown significantly as a boxer over the years, so it will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT. It’s a full-circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him off on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him.”
With a notable 30-year age gap between the two fighters, many have raised questions about the legitimacy of this matchup.
Just yesterday, Tyson shared a brief training video on ‘X’ with the caption:
“It’s day 1…the fun has just begun”
Chael Sonnen didn’t hold back in offering his critique of Tyson’s video, taking to ‘X’ to say:
“In the future, if you’re ever going to spend five seconds hitting mitts, as a way of making the audience believe you’re doing a training session, make sure you splash water on your face and T-shirt first.”
