Oakland outfielder Miguel Andújar underwent surgery on Wednesday to fix a torn meniscus in his right knee. This kind of surgery usually takes about a month to recover.
The team announced that Dr. Doug Freedberg performed the surgery at Pima Surgical Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. Andújar will head back to Oakland later this week to start his rehabilitation process.
Andújar signed a one-year contract worth $1.7 million in November. During spring training, he performed well, hitting .357 with five home runs and 15 RBIs in 42 at-bats across 14 games. His last game was on March 19.
Andújar, who has been in the majors for seven years, has a batting average of .270, with 39 home runs and 149 RBIs. He played for the New York Yankees from 2017 to 2022 and then for Pittsburgh from 2022 to 2023. Last year with the Pirates, he hit .250 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 30 games.
He also did well in Triple-A International League, batting .338 with 16 homers and 86 RBIs in 103 games for Indianapolis.
