Cole Perfetti scored twice, and Kyle Connor contributed three assists, as the Winnipeg Jets ended a six-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Monday.
The Jets got the game’s first power play in the third period, with the score tied 3-3. Perfetti, who hadn’t played in the last two games, shot past Kings goalie Cam Talbot just after the power play ended.
“It wasn’t easy,” Perfetti said of being benched. “I just tried to stay positive and be ready if I got the chance. Tonight, I tried to seize the moment.”
Josh Morrissey had a goal and an assist, and Sean Monahan also scored for the Jets. Perfetti assisted on Morrissey’s goal. Laurent Brossoit stopped 25 shots for Winnipeg. Morrissey praised Perfetti’s performance, saying, “He played a great game. Nice to see him playing with confidence.”
Viktor Arvidsson, Kevin Fiala, and Anže Kopitar scored for the Kings. Vladislav Gavrikov had two assists, and Talbot made 28 saves for Los Angeles.
“It was a good hockey game both ways,” said Kings interim coach Jim Hiller. “We go down and have a breakaway, they come back and get one. It’s that close.”
Winnipeg had lost five games in a row before this match, while the Kings had lost three straight. Monday’s game was tied 1-1 after the first period and 3-3 going into the third.
Perfetti scored first for the Jets, and Arvidsson tied it for the Kings. In the second period, Fiala and Monahan traded goals, then Kopitar and Morrissey did the same. Perfetti’s goal in the third period proved to be the game-winner.
