Josh Dobbs has had to step in as a starting quarterback for different teams in recent years, but he wants to settle down in one place. So, when the 49ers reached out to him during free agency last month, he was interested.
Even though Brock Purdy is the established starter, Dobbs told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that he was looking for a team with a stable front office, coaching staff, and good quarterback development. He found those qualities in the 49ers, along with respect for Purdy’s game.
Dobbs praised Purdy for his ability to win games and play efficiently. He’s eager to contribute his perspective and experience while fitting into whatever role the team needs.
Being part of a consistent environment and surrounded by quality coaching and players excites him. Dobbs believes he can add value to the team and is looking forward to the opportunity.
Ideally, the 49ers won’t need Dobbs to start any games, but if the situation arises, he’ll be better prepared after a full off-season with the team.
