Lionel Messi didn’t play for Inter Miami in their game against Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarterfinal first leg on Wednesday night.
Messi has been dealing with a right hamstring injury and hasn’t played since March 13 when he left a game against Nashville due to discomfort in his hamstring.
He also missed Argentina’s exhibition matches against El Salvador and Costa Rica this month.
Inter Miami assistant coach Javier Morales had hoped Messi would be back for Wednesday’s game after missing three matches, but he wasn’t included in the lineup.
Messi’s former Barcelona teammates Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba did start for Inter Miami on Wednesday. The second leg of the quarterfinal will be played on April 10 in Mexico.
