Lille climbed to the third spot in the French league standings following a 3-1 win against struggling Marseille on Friday.

With this victory, Lille moved ahead of Monaco based on goal difference and is now just one point behind second-placed Brest. The team has maintained an unbeaten record in home league matches since September.

Jonathan David scored the opening goal from a penalty kick in the 53rd minute, bringing his season total to 15 goals, trailing only Kylian Mbappé in the Ligue 1 scoring charts.

Rémy Cabella added a second goal for Lille, and although Ismaily’s own goal gave Marseille a slight chance, Gabriel Gudmundsson secured Lille’s lead with a goal in the 83rd minute. This defeat marked Marseille’s third consecutive loss in the league, their worst streak this season.

Despite the loss, Marseille remains in seventh place in the standings, ahead of Reims and Rennes based on goal difference, although both of these teams have a game in hand.

Marseille’s performance away from home against the top six teams in Ligue 1 has been disappointing, with six matches played and six defeats suffered.
