Luis Horna, a former tennis player who now captains Peru’s Davis Cup team, has been fined $10,000 for endorsing a betting company, according to the sport’s integrity agency on Monday.

Horna agreed to the penalty, which also included a suspended six-month ban, stated the International Tennis Integrity Agency.

The ITIA explained that Horna’s agreement in 2023 to promote tennis betting went against the sport’s regulations concerning partnerships with betting firms.

The agency noted that Horna fully cooperated with the inquiry, expressed regret, and terminated the agreement. It acknowledged that the breach was unintentional.

At 43 years old, Horna reached his highest singles ranking of No. 33 in 2004 and retired from professional tennis in 2009. He has also worked as a tournament director in Peru.
