Brandon Vazquez, Germán Berterame, and Jesus Gallardo scored goals for Monterrey, leading to a 5-2 aggregate victory. Miami’s Diego Gómez scored in the 85th minute.
Despite starting the match, Messi had limited scoring opportunities. Monterrey’s coach, Fernando Ortiz, expressed satisfaction at beating a formidable opponent but emphasized the upcoming match against Tigres.
Before the series, Ortiz expressed confidence in his team’s abilities but voiced concern about Messi’s potential influence on referees.
Miami’s coach, Gerardo Martino, acknowledged disappointment at the loss, stating that it ended their hopes of advancing further in the tournament. Messi, returning from injury, was unable to lead Miami to the semifinals.
Monterrey, known for its high payroll, will face the Columbus Crew in the semifinals, while America will play against Pachuca. Inter Miami ended the game with 10 players after Jordi Alba received a red card.
