Max Fried pitched well for six innings, and Marcell Ozuna hit a home run to help the Atlanta Braves win 8-1 against the Miami Marlins in the first game of their series on Friday night.
Fried had struggled in his previous two starts this season but bounced back by allowing only four hits, striking out four, and walking one. He left the game after giving up two consecutive hits in the seventh inning.
Ozuna’s home run in the ninth inning was his sixth of the season, tying him for the major league lead.
He had a strong performance, going 3 for 4 with three RBIs.
The Braves scored five runs in the seventh inning, with Orlando Arcia starting the rally with a double. Andrew Nardi, the Marlins’ reliever, struggled, giving up a bases-loaded walk and a two-run single to Ozuna.
Despite the loss, Marlins manager Skip Schumaker expressed confidence in his team’s ability to turn things around.
