Jake Bauers hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning, breaking the tie and helping the Milwaukee Brewers win 11-5 against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday.
In their last six games, the Brewers have scored a total of 58 runs, with at least seven runs scored in each game. This ties a record for the team set in 1982 and 1989.
Manager Pat Murphy praised the team’s performance, saying they had excellent at-bats and set high standards for themselves.
Although the Orioles took a 4-1 lead in the second inning, the Brewers quickly bounced back. The windy conditions at Camden Yards favored the hitters more than the pitchers. Rhys Hoskins also hit a home run for the Brewers, while Ryan Mountcastle, Jordan Westburg, and Adley Rutschman homered for the Orioles.
Elvis Peguero, along with four other relievers, pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings to keep the Orioles from scoring.
Dean Kremer, the Orioles’ starting pitcher, gave up six earned runs and 10 hits in four innings.
Milwaukee’s starter DL Hall allowed five runs and eight hits in 3 1/3 innings. Hall, who was part of the trade that sent Corbin Burnes from the Brewers to the Orioles in the offseason, mentioned that he’s not satisfied with his fastball performance as he transitions to the rotation. He primarily pitched as a reliever for the Orioles in the past two seasons.
Mountcastle’s homer in the first inning gave the Orioles an early lead, followed by Westburg’s two-run homer. Hoskins hit a homer for the Brewers in the second inning, but the Orioles responded with an RBI single from Gunnar Henderson.
In the third inning, the Brewers scored three runs without hitting a homer. They tied the game at 4 with an RBI single from Hoskins and an error by left fielder Austin Hays. Rutschman’s homer in the bottom of the inning put the Orioles ahead 5-4, but Milwaukee tied it again with an RBI single from William Contreras. Bauers’ homer in the fourth inning gave the Brewers the lead for good.
The Brewers continued to score in the eighth inning, with an RBI single from Sal Frelick and a two-run double from Willy Adames. This was the sixth time in the series that the Brewers scored at least three runs in an inning.
Milwaukee performed well with runners in scoring position, going 6 for 10 in Saturday’s game and 33 for 69 (.478) in the last six games.
Jackson Holliday, a highly regarded rookie for the Orioles, was given a day off after going hitless in his first three games.
