Kyle Connor scored twice, and Tyler Toffoli broke a tie in the third period to help the Winnipeg Jets secure a crucial 4-3 win against the Seattle Kraken on Tuesday.
This victory guaranteed the Jets second place in the Central Division, granting them a home-ice advantage for the upcoming playoff series against the Colorado Avalanche.
“It’s exactly what we aimed for tonight,” said Nikolaj Ehlers, who also contributed with a goal and an assist. “It wasn’t perfect throughout the game, but we got the job done, and that’s what matters.”
Winnipeg extended their winning streak to seven games in front of a packed arena at Canada Life Centre, marking their eighth sold-out crowd of the season.
Toffoli capitalized on a power play opportunity, receiving a pass from Ehlers and scoring with a backhand shot past Seattle’s goalie, Philipp Grubauer, with just over eight minutes remaining in the third period.
“It’s a relief to secure home-ice advantage in this game,” commented Connor. “We showed resilience and persistence despite the ups and downs.”
Connor’s two goals extended his point streak to eight games, demonstrating his consistent performance on both offense and defense.
“Connor’s skating has been exceptional in all areas of the ice,” remarked Jets coach Rick Bowness. “His commitment to both ends of the rink is evident, including some impressive defensive plays.”
Mark Scheifele and Josh Morrissey also contributed with two assists each, supporting the Jets’ offensive efforts.
Goalie Connor Hellebuyck made 20 saves for Winnipeg, who will conclude their regular season at home against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday.
For the Kraken, Yanni Gourde, Tomas Tatar, and Tye Kartye each scored a goal, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win against the Jets. “It’s important for us to bring our best every game, regardless of the opponent,” noted Kartye. “We put up a strong effort against a tough team tonight.”
Despite their efforts, Seattle lost their fourth consecutive game and will end their playoff-less season on Thursday against the Minnesota Wild.
“Our team showed great resilience tonight,” said Seattle coach Dave Hakstol. “Regardless of the circumstances, we fought hard and made a strong comeback.”
