In Game 1 of the first-round series between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks, the Knicks emerged victorious with an 111-104 win. Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with an impressive performance, contributing 22 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. However, it was Josh Hart and OG Anunoby who delivered crucial plays that sealed the victory for the Knicks.

The game took a concerning turn for Philadelphia when Joel Embiid, their star player, encountered an injury scare in the second quarter. The incident occurred following an impressive off-the-backboard dunk by Embiid, after which he landed awkwardly, immediately clutching his knee in pain. Embiid remained on the floor as trainers assessed the situation before being assisted off the court and to the locker room.

Despite the initial alarm, Embiid returned to the court at the start of the third quarter, although Philadelphia found themselves trailing 58-46. Embiid displayed resilience, finishing the game with 29 points, eight rebounds, and six assists despite shooting 8-of-22 from the field. However, his aggressive play, including a notable collision with Brunson, drew ire from Madison Square Garden’s crowd.

The reoccurrence of a left knee injury is particularly concerning for Embiid, given his history of missing over two months of the regular season due to surgery on the same knee. Although he made a comeback on April 2, his absence from the Sixers’ regular season finale on Sunday raised apprehensions about his durability heading into the playoffs.
