Seattle’s Jackson Ragen got a red card in the 43rd minute, and Alex Roldan was also shown the red in the 75th. This helped the Vancouver Whitecaps win 2-0 against the Sounders on Saturday night.
Ragen’s foul on Ryan Gauld, upgraded after a video review, left the Sounders with one player less. Roldan left after fouling Vancouver’s Ali Ahmed.
Gauld scored the first goal in the 58th minute with an assist from Sam Adekugbe, shooting from the center of the box. It was his third goal this season, all in the last four matches.
Brian White scored an insurance goal in the 71st minute for the Whitecaps. It was his fourth goal this season and third consecutive match with a goal.
Yohei Takaoka made two saves for his third clean sheet of the season for the Whitecaps, tying for the league lead with three others.
Stefan Frei made two saves for the Sounders, who have scored only nine goals this season, five of which came in a single game against Montreal.
The Whitecaps, the first Western Conference team to reach five wins, have won all three of their away matches this season.
With this win, Vancouver leads the Western Conference, one point ahead of Real Salt Lake and the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Seattle will play against D.C. United next Saturday, while Vancouver will face the New York Red Bulls away on the same day.
