Sergiño Dest, the American defender, hurt his knee during a training session with PSV Eindhoven, leading to uncertainty about his participation in the Copa América for the United States.
The 23-year-old player regularly plays as an outside back under U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter.
“Sergiño Dest sustained what seems to be a serious knee injury during Saturday’s training,” PSV stated on Sunday.
“The duration of his absence is still being assessed, but it’s likely to be a long period.”
Dest joined PSV on loan from Barcelona in August for the entire season. He has scored two goals in 25 league games and 37 matches.
Dest has also scored two goals in 33 international appearances and played in all four of the United States’ matches at the 2022 World Cup.
