The Brooklyn Nets have officially named Jordi Fernández as their new head coach, marking the 24th coach in the franchise’s NBA history. General Manager Sean Marks expressed excitement about Fernández’s appointment, praising his diverse coaching experiences and ability to build strong relationships with players.
Fernández joins the Nets after a successful tenure as the associate head coach of the Sacramento Kings, where he contributed to the team’s Pacific Division title and playoff appearance last season.
Additionally, he currently serves as the head coach of Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team, leading them to a bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Nets Governor Joe Tsai welcomed Fernández and his family to the Nets organization, emphasizing Fernández’s leadership qualities and commitment to building a winning culture in Brooklyn.
Prior to his time with the Kings, Fernández spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the Denver Nuggets, contributing to their playoff runs, including a trip to the Western Conference Finals in 2020.
Fernández’s coaching journey also includes stints with the NBA G League’s Canton Charge and coaching roles with various national teams, including Nigeria and Spain.
In his statement, Fernández expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Nets and his eagerness to work with the team’s talented players to achieve success on and off the court.
