The uniforms for Major League Baseball will have bigger letters on the back of jerseys, and starting in 2025, players can get pants customized to fit them better, MLB and Nike revealed on Friday.
MLB and Nike talked to players, teams, and equipment managers before deciding on these changes.
During spring training, some players didn’t like how the uniforms fit or looked. For example, the white pants some teams wore were see-through, showing the jersey tops tucked in.
Commissioner Rob Manfred said they listened to the players’ feedback and are making changes based on it.
Nike is also working on fixing the slight color differences between some gray road jerseys and pants and solving the problem of sweat causing discoloration. They hope to have the new uniforms ready to wear in the second half of this season.
Manfred added that they’ll keep working with Nike to make sure the uniforms look good and help players perform their best.
The players’ association sent out a memo detailing the uniform changes. The uniforms are made by Fanatics, with MLB and Nike setting the specifications.
