Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is facing a decision about who will be the goalkeeper for the Champions League final. Thibaut Courtois, known as one of the best goalkeepers globally, is returning from a long injury. In his absence, Andriy Lunin stepped in and helped lead the team to the final against Borussia Dortmund on June 1.
Ancelotti mentioned on Friday that he intends to give Courtois more game time in the league to evaluate his performance, but he also stated that he has a month to make a decision.
Lunin became the starting goalkeeper after Courtois got injured in August, impressing with his performances. Courtois made his comeback in the recent 3-0 win against Cadiz, securing Madrid’s 36th Spanish league title.
However, Lunin played in the recent 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League semifinals.
Ancelotti announced that Courtois will start in Saturday’s match against Granada in the league, where several key players, including Jude Bellingham, will be rested. This game holds little significance for Madrid, as Granada is struggling near the bottom of the table.
