Maikel Garcia’s two-run double off Yankees pitcher Clay Holmes ended the game, helping the Kansas City Royals win 4-3 against New York. The Royals bounced back after losing the first three games of the series, despite Alec Marsh pitching exceptionally well for them.
Marsh didn’t allow any hits from the Yankees until the seventh inning. He only let Juan Soto get a single in that inning before finishing his game with 96 pitches. Marsh struck out Aaron Judge three times, saying he kept the Yankees’ hitter off-balance with his pitches.
In the eighth inning, the Yankees started catching up, with Anthony Rizzo hitting a home run.
They got closer when Garrett Hampson made an error, leading to another run. Angel Zerpa then gave up a hit, giving the Yankees the lead.
In the ninth inning, Drew Waters got an infield hit, causing confusion between Holmes and Anthony Rizzo. With one out, Kyle Isbel singled, setting up Garcia’s game-winning hit. This was Holmes’ fourth blown save this season.
Kansas City’s manager, Matt Quatraro, praised his team’s effort, especially against a strong opponent like the Yankees. He commended their hustle and never-give-up attitude, saying it was inspiring for him as their manager.
