Jake Cronenworth hit a home run with two outs in the ninth inning, which was the fourth homer for San Diego, leading the Padres to a 7-6 victory over the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night.
Cronenworth’s homer, deep down the right field line off Joel Payamps (1-3), followed strikeouts by Fernando Tatis Jr. and Jurickson Profar. It was Cronenworth’s 11th homer of the season.
Tatis smashed a 446-foot homer and celebrated with an enthusiastic bat flip in the fifth inning. Manny Machado and rookie Jackson Merrill also hit home runs for the Padres.
This was the Padres’ third consecutive walk-off homer at home, prompting a lively celebration at the plate each time.
“It’s pretty amazing. The best part is coming home and having everyone waiting for you, celebrating together,” Cronenworth said. “It’s a team effort and a great win tonight.”
Cronenworth highlighted the Padres’ resilience, saying, “Three walk-offs in a row show our identity and how we bounce back. It’s who we are. Three straight walk-offs are really special.”
The Brewers scored two runs in the ninth inning against Jeremiah Estrada (3-1), who was aiming for his second save. One run came from a wild pitch and the second from Rhys Hoskins’ double to left field.
Tatis’ 14th homer of the season landed in the second deck of left field at Petco Park in the fifth inning, giving the Padres a 5-3 lead. Tatis tossed his bat after hitting the ball, and he did his trademark stutter-step around third base while wearing custom cleats honoring the late Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn. Tatis matched his career high with four hits, achieving this feat for the second time this season.
