Gio Urshela hit a two-run home run in the 10th inning to help the Detroit Tigers complete a comeback from a 9-4 deficit in the ninth inning and defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 11-9 on Saturday.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch expressed disbelief at the game’s twists and turns, saying, “It’s an amazing feeling to see the guys happy — what a comeback on both sides of the ball.”

The winning play started with Wenceel Perez’s bunt that advanced Ryan Vilade to third base. Despite the Dodgers employing a five-man infield, Urshela’s home run off Yohan Ramirez sealed the victory.

Urshela, who entered the game in extra innings, praised his team’s resilience: “What a game by the whole team. They fought so hard and I just wanted to get the runner home.”

Shohei Ohtani had a notable game for the Dodgers, hitting his 200th career home run and also tripling, accumulating 233 total bases before the All-Star break, which ranks among the highest since 1933.

The Dodgers initially took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with Ohtani scoring on a force play, but Detroit responded with two runs in the second, aided by an error from Kiké Hernández that set up Colt Keith’s two-run double. The Dodgers tied the game in the third inning after loading the bases on a walk and two singles.

The game saw dramatic turns, including Dodgers closer Evan Phillips being unable to hold a five-run lead in the ninth inning. Phillips retired the first two batters but yielded crucial hits that allowed Detroit to tie the game.

Despite a bases-loaded threat in the 10th inning, the Dodgers couldn’t capitalize, as Will Vest induced Freddie Freeman into a double play to end the inning.

The loss extended the Dodgers’ recent struggles, having now lost five of their last six games, while the Tigers continue their strong form with seven wins in their last nine outings.
