The Baltimore Orioles placed outfielder Heston Kjerstad on the seven-day injured list for concussions on Saturday, following an incident where he was struck in the helmet by a pitch less than 24 hours earlier.

Initially slated to start against the New York Yankees on Saturday, Kjerstad was removed from the lineup shortly before the game. The Orioles then announced his move to the injured list just before game time. In response, Baltimore called up outfielder Kyle Stowers from Triple-A Norfolk.

With only a couple of games remaining before the All-Star break, the Orioles also sent starting pitcher Cade Povich to Norfolk and added right-hander Vinny Nottoli to their roster from the same affiliate.

Meanwhile, the Yankees placed catcher Jose Trevino on the 10-day injured list due to a left quad strain and brought up catcher Carlos Narváez from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Kjerstad was struck near the ear flap by a 97 mph pitch from New York’s Clay Holmes during the ninth inning of Friday night’s game. The incident led to benches clearing, although the Yankees ultimately secured a 4-1 victory.

New York manager Aaron Boone mentioned that he had a conversation with Orioles manager Brandon Hyde after the game, characterizing it as “fine.”
