After watching her longtime doubles partner Barbora Krejcikova win the Wimbledon singles title, Katerina Siniakova stepped onto Centre Court and added another Grand Slam trophy to her own collection.
Siniakova secured her third women’s doubles title at Wimbledon by teaming up with Taylor Townsend to defeat Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe 7-6 (5), 7-6 (1) on Saturday. The match ended late, past 10:20 p.m. local time under floodlights.
“It’s amazing. I’m so proud of Barbora,” Siniakova said about her fellow Czech. “I’m just thrilled that we could achieve this too.”
Siniakova has won seven major doubles titles with Krejcikova and one with Coco Gauff at this year’s French Open.
This victory at Wimbledon was her first with Townsend, an American who had previously reached two Grand Slam finals in doubles, both times finishing as runner-up at the 2022 U.S.
Open to Siniakova and Krejcikova, and at the 2023 French Open.
Townsend mentioned that it was Siniakova who suggested they team up for Wimbledon. “I’m really glad Katerina reached out to me,” Townsend said.
Less than seven hours after Krejcikova won the women’s singles final against Jasmine Paolini, the fourth-seeded Siniakova and Townsend clinched their victory when Routliffe double-faulted on their first match point.
Although Siniakova and Townsend missed opportunities to break serve in the second set, they dominated the tiebreaker, winning 5-0.
This match was the third on Centre Court that day, following the men’s doubles final. Siniakova and Krejcikova previously won the Wimbledon doubles title in 2022 and 2018.
