McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri topped the time charts in the third practice session for the Hungarian Grand Prix on Saturday.
Max Verstappen, leading in points for Red Bull, came in third, followed by Mercedes’ George Russell.
Lewis Hamilton spun his Mercedes in the middle of the track, resulting in only the 10th best time.
The Hungarian GP marks the beginning of the second half of the season. Qualifying is scheduled later on Saturday for Sunday’s race.
Verstappen aims for his fourth consecutive Formula One title. He currently leads the driver standings with 255 points, followed by Norris with 171.
McLaren and Mercedes have recently narrowed the gap with Red Bull. Hamilton and Russell won the last two races, while Norris has demonstrated he can match Verstappen’s pace.
Norris had the fastest car on Friday in very hot conditions, with track temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit). Saturday was overcast, lowering temperatures to 40 C.
Ferrari is also looking to bounce back after a recent performance downturn, despite wins earlier in the year by Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Hamilton secured pole position here last year, and Russell did so in 2022. However, Verstappen won both races, overcoming a 10th-place grid start two years ago.
