Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP rider Jago Geerts is set to return to competitive racing at the 14th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship in Lommel, Belgium, this weekend.
Geerts has been recovering from significant injuries sustained at the season opener in Argentina, where he fractured his left elbow and right clavicle. Following two surgeries and an extensive rehabilitation period, he is finally poised to rejoin the race.
Geerts’ recovery has been carefully monitored, and various medical teams have approved his return, confirming that his injuries have healed sufficiently. However, before he is cleared to race, he must pass a mandatory medical examination conducted by the FIM Doctor to ensure he is fit to compete in the MXGP of Flanders.
Prior to his injury, Geerts was looking forward to his debut full season in the premier MXGP class. The weekend’s race in Lommel will mark his return to action, and while it is his home GP, Geerts plans to approach the event with a relaxed mindset.
His primary focus will be to get back into the rhythm of racing and enjoy the experience, rather than stressing over results or performance.
Geerts expressed his enthusiasm about returning to the track, highlighting that the recent confirmation from his surgeon about his elbow’s full recovery has been a significant relief.
Although he will be racing at his home GP, he emphasizes that his main goal is to have fun and enjoy the racing experience rather than concentrating solely on the outcome.
The event schedule for the MXGP of Flanders includes several key races and sessions: July 27 features practice and qualifying sessions, while July 28 will host the MX2 Race 2 at 3:00 PM and MXGP Race 2 at 4:00 PM. Fans can look forward to a weekend of competitive racing with Geerts making his much-anticipated return to the sport.
