On Tuesday, the New York Rangers avoided arbitration by signing defenseman Ryan Lindgren to a one-year contract.
Lindgren, 26, has become a key player for New York, playing alongside Adam Fox on the top defensive pair. Last season, he averaged more than 19 minutes of ice time and over 20 minutes in the playoffs.
The Minnesota native could become an unrestricted free agent next summer if he and the team don’t agree on a new contract before July 1.
Since being drafted 49th in 2016 by Boston, Lindgren has played in 376 NHL regular-season and playoff games. The Rangers traded for him in 2018, and he has spent his entire NHL career with New York.
