Marketa Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, and Cam Norrie have withdrawn from the U.S. Open on Friday due to injuries.
Vondrousova, ranked 18th, is dealing with a hand injury, while Norrie, ranked 47th, has a forearm issue.
Vondrousova, who is 25 and from the Czech Republic, won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon last year and was the runner-up at the 2019 French Open. She also earned a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
She hasn’t played since losing in the first round at Wimbledon in July, becoming the first woman since 1994 to lose her opening match at Wimbledon the year after winning the title.
Petra Martic will replace Vondrousova in the women’s draw, and Francisco Comesana will take Norrie’s place in the men’s bracket for the final Grand Slam of the year.
The U.S. Open draw is scheduled for next Thursday, with the tournament starting on August 26.
