Major League Baseball has released the spring training schedules for 2025, and the Houston Astros found out who they will play in the Spring Breakout game.
The Astros will host this game at their spring training facility in West Palm Beach, Fla. They will face the Washington Nationals, their 2019 World Series opponents.
The game is scheduled for March 14, with the exact time to be announced later.
The Astros and Nationals had a memorable seven-game World Series in 2019, which Washington won to secure their first title. This win followed Houston’s 2017 World Series victory, but their 2018 season ended in a loss to the Boston Red Sox in the American League Championship Series.
Since then, Houston has returned to the World Series twice, losing to Atlanta in 2021 and winning against Philadelphia in 2022. The Nationals, however, have not had a winning season since their championship.
The game will feature top prospects from both teams, though the specific rosters will be announced later. Both teams are expected to have some of their best prospects in the game.
Since the start of the Spring Breakout games, 95 participating players have made it to the Major Leagues, with 35 of them being MLB Pipeline Top 100 prospects.
Last month, during the MLB Futures Game, 48 of the 54 players participated in Spring Breakout games.
For the Astros, pitcher A.J. Blubaugh, who played in the MLB Futures Game and is currently at Triple-A Sugar Land, could be among those featured. The Arizona Fall League in October will also provide clues about who might play in next year’s game.
