The New York Yankees have placed right-handed pitcher Luis Gil on the 15-day injured list after he suffered a lower back strain during Tuesday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians. Gil struggled in the game, allowing three runs on three hits and six walks over just three-plus innings before being forced to leave the contest.
Gil’s trouble began in the fourth inning when he surrendered a home run to Brayan Rocchio. After walking Steven Kwan, Yankees manager Aaron Boone and a trainer visited the mound during Gil’s at-bat against Jose Ramirez, leading to Gil’s exit from the game. This marked the end of a difficult outing for the 26-year-old pitcher.
After the game, Gil expressed his frustration, explaining through an interpreter that he tried to work through the pain but decided to prioritize his long-term health. He mentioned that the team’s doctor advised him to take it day by day, hoping to avoid making the injury worse.
In response to Gil’s injury, the Yankees have called up right-hander Will Warren from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Warren, who made his Major League debut on July 30, has struggled in his first few starts, posting an 8.59 ERA over three appearances. He will now have another opportunity to prove himself in the big leagues.
