Jackson Holliday hit a three-run double in the sixth inning, helping the Baltimore Orioles come from behind to beat the Houston Astros 3-2 on Saturday. This was Baltimore’s second big hit with the bases loaded in less than 24 hours.

Colton Cowser extended the key rally by hustling for an infield single. After Tayler Scott replaced Framber Valdez (13-6), Holliday, who had been struggling with a 0-for-20 slump, came in as a pinch hitter and drove a double to right-center field on the first pitch.

“Cowser getting to first base and sliding in was crucial for that moment,” Holliday said. “It’s important games. They’re a good team. Three RBIs in that big of a spot, it’s pretty awesome.”

Houston’s Jose Altuve and Jeremy Peña each hit a home run, but despite Valdez’s strong performance for most of the game, the Astros lost their lead for the second consecutive day.

The Orioles had won 7-5 on Friday night, thanks to a five-run eighth inning featuring Anthony Santander’s grand slam.

Keegan Akin (3-0) earned the win in relief in his first game back after being on the paternity list. Yannier Cano added 1 1/3 scoreless innings, and Seranthony Domínguez pitched a perfect ninth for his fifth save since joining the Orioles last month.

Valdez allowed three runs and six hits in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out eight and walked one but lost for the first time since June 18. He had been 8-0 in his previous 10 starts.

Baltimore is now just half a game behind the AL East-leading New York Yankees, who lost to Colorado. The Astros remain 4 1/2 games ahead of Seattle in the AL West.
