Ramón Urías hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the fifth inning, and Ryan O’Hearn also homered as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Tuesday night in the first game of their interleague series.

The Dodgers had a chance to tie or win the game in the ninth inning but stranded the runners when Chris Taylor lined out. They are leading the NL West by three games over Arizona and San Diego.

In the eighth inning, Mookie Betts singled and stole second base, but Teoscar Hernández struck out against Yennier Cano, and Will Smith was called out on strikes to end the inning.

Los Angeles only had three hits in the last six innings and did not get a runner past second base after the third inning.

Baltimore is just one game behind the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East.

“We’re in the prime position to get hot,” Orioles starter Cole Irvin said. “Good team win. We’ve got to keep it up.”

Shohei Ohtani hits a single in the 1st inning

Urías’ second homer in two games landed in the Dodgers’ bullpen, scoring Jackson Holliday, who had singled, and putting the Orioles back in the lead. Urías now has five homers this month, matching his career high from July 2022. He has 15 RBIs in his last 15 games since August 10.

“He’s been our offense the last couple weeks,” manager Brandon Hyde said. “We’re not swinging the bats now. We’re not scoring a ton of runs right now.”

This was Baltimore’s 201st homer of the season, surpassing 200 for the first time since 2019 and ranking behind only the Yankees. O’Hearn’s solo homer in the second inning gave the Orioles a 1-0 lead in their first game at Dodger Stadium since 2016.

Matt Bowman (1-0) earned the win with 1 2/3 innings of relief, getting Betts and Hernández out to end the fifth inning. Seranthony Domínguez pitched the ninth inning to secure his seventh save.

“Bowman got the biggest outs of the game in that spot,” Hyde said.
