Shohei Ohtani hit his 46th home run of the season, tying his career best, with a 450-foot solo shot down the right-field line in the fifth inning of the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 4-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians on a hot Sunday.
The temperature at Dodger Stadium reached 103 degrees, matching the hottest first-pitch temperature ever at the stadium. Ohtani hit the homer off Cleveland starter Tanner Bibee, and the play was reviewed to check if it was fair.
Ohtani also hit 46 home runs in 2021 while playing for the Los Angeles Angels during his unanimous AL MVP season. The Japanese star has 46 stolen bases this season and is trying to become the first major league player to achieve a 50-50 season.
The temperature for the first pitch of Game 1 of the 2017 World Series against Houston was also 103 degrees.
