Georgia understands that every defense will eventually give up a touchdown because no team is flawless, even though the No. 2 Bulldogs currently seem unbeatable.

Georgia (3-0, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) is preparing for a tough challenge against No. 4 Alabama and its versatile quarterback Jalen Milroe when they visit Tuscaloosa on Sept. 28 after their bye week.

Despite dropping one spot in the AP Top 25, the Bulldogs feel confident having allowed only seven field goals in their last four games dating back to last season.

“Our defense takes a lot of pride in how they play, and our defensive staff does an incredible job,” said Georgia coach Kirby Smart, highlighting the importance of their red-zone defense and limiting big plays.

“They work really hard on game planning for opponents. We’ll face better and better offenses, so we need to keep improving. But it’s tough to maintain that level of performance. I’m not sure if anyone in college football has managed to keep it up for long.”

Georgia’s strong performance began with a 63-3 win over Florida State in last season’s Orange Bowl, reflecting their disappointment at being left out of the College Football Playoff and missing a chance at a third straight national championship.

They also restricted then-No. 14 Clemson to just 188 yards and a second-half field goal in a 34-3 season opener. Georgia almost shut out Tennessee Tech, allowing only a last-second field goal in a 48-3 victory.

Smart was particularly pleased with Saturday’s 13-12 win over Kentucky, praising the team’s defensive toughness despite missing key players. Defensive linemen Mykel Williams, Jordan Hall, and Warren Brinson were absent, and cornerback Daniel Harris did not play after being arrested for allegedly driving 106 mph in Athens, Georgia.
