Buffalo Bills running back James Cook will not play against the New York Jets on Monday night due to a toe injury.

Cook has 309 rushing yards and four touchdowns this season. He was listed as questionable for the game after not practicing earlier in the week and being limited on Saturday.

In Cook’s absence, Ty Johnson and Ray Davis are expected to carry most of the workload, but the Bills also brought up Frank Gore Jr. He is the son of the NFL’s third-leading career rusher and had brief stints with different teams before his career ended in 2020.

The younger Gore signed as an undrafted free agent from Southern Miss and will make his NFL debut.

Josh Allen will have Khalil Shakir back, as the wide receiver missed last week due to a right ankle injury. Shakir has been Allen’s most dependable target, catching 18 of 19 passes thrown his way, leading the team with 230 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Nickel cornerback Taron Johnson is also returning for the Bills after breaking his right forearm in the season opener.

Morgan Moses is tended to by the staff after an injury

Defensive tackle Ed Oliver will miss his second straight game due to a hamstring injury. Inactive for Buffalo are offensive lineman Will Clapp, linebackers Joe Andreessen and Edefuan Ulofoshio, and safety Mike Edwards.

For the Jets, linebacker C.J. Mosley is back after missing the last three games with a toe injury. Right tackle Morgan Moses is also returning after sitting out for two games because of a knee injury.

The Jets activated defensive tackle Leki Fotu from injured reserve, and he is set to make his debut with the team.

Among the players inactive for the Jets are running back Israel Abanikanda, wide receiver Malachi Corley, offensive linemen Carter Warren and Max Mitchell, edge rusher Braiden McGregor, and cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Jarrick Bernard-Converse.

Tight end Anthony Firkser and safety Jalen Mills were promoted from the practice squad by the Jets, and defensive lineman Jalyn Holmes was released to make room for Fotu.
