The World Series had its highest viewership in five years on Tuesday night as the New York Yankees avoided a sweep.
The Yankees won 11-4 against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4, attracting an average of 16.28 million viewers on Fox, Fox Deportes, and streaming, according to Nielsen.
This marks the most-watched game in the Fall Classic since Game 7 in 2019, which averaged 23.22 million viewers when the Washington Nationals defeated the Houston Astros.
This was also the most-viewed Game 4 since the 2016 series between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians, which had 16.71 million viewers.
Fox is hoping for a similar audience boost for Wednesday night’s fifth game, similar to what happened eight years ago when the viewership increased by seven million to 23.64 million.
Tuesday’s game peaked at 18.22 million viewers between 10 and 10:15 p.m. EDT. This was a 92% rise compared to last year’s Game 4, which had 8.48 million viewers.
After four games, the World Series is averaging 14.98 million viewers, the highest average in seven years.
The game received a 19.7 rating and a 54 share in Los Angeles, and a 12.8 rating with a 33 share in New York.
The rating indicates the percentage of television households watching, while the share reflects the percentage of the audience watching at that moment.
